about
In the studio, at a workshop or onstage under the gun, Sam Hubbell's eclectic style and warm presence have time and again pleased the sonic palettes of both fan and fellow musician alike. Sam has been performing since the age of nine and works over 200 hundred shows each year. His guitar playing is filled to the brim with classic six-string ear candy, from Allman-esque sweetness to Beck-ish bends, from down home chicken-pickin' to mournful slide like a hot plate special smothered in a gravy of killer tone. Sam says it best, "for me the song always comes first, then comes the 8 or 12 bars for me to do something exciting."
Sam is a favorite around the Chicagoland area and is the backdrop for numerous acts and solo performers including Michael Heaton (The Michael Heaton Band), Art "Buddy" Edwards (The Refreshments), Dana French (Deluxury), and the legendary Sundowners. Sam has recorded for countless television, radio, indie film, soundtrack and commercial ad spots. His Off Broadway credits include "Always Patsy, The Patsy Cline Story". Sam has opened for national acts including Cheap Trick and Heart.
A multi-instrumentalist and backup singer, Sam endorses and uses Victoria amps and VintageFX pedals. He plays Gibson, Fender, Danelectro, Parker and Takamine guitars. Other oddities in his String-Pool include lap steel, mandolin, dobro, ukulele, bass, Irish mandocello and the occasional tin whistle.
Sam is well known to his peer's as the go-to-guy for the right part at the right time and his workhorse approach. His always spot on performance throws down a tone chockfull of emotion, grit, and gutbucket vibe.
